ADB takes on outdated aircon with a global innovation challenge

Up to US$295,000 in seed funding for the winning solution.

Outdated aircon systems are an increasing threat to Asia's environmental goals. But they're not just bad for the environment. Old and poorly maintained aircon can pump airborne viruses, including Covid-19, through buildings as well.

In response, the Asian Development Bank is looking for cleaner and smarter alternatives that could do with some financial support to scale up.

The bank has set aside US$295,000 to help fund pilot projects in three public buildings. The prize is part of a new innovation challenge that aims to improve disease resilience and energy efficiency for centralized air-con systems.

The competition is open to public and private sector entities, including start-ups, technology providers, research organisations and the academic community.

The challenge is supported by the ADB’s High-Level Technology Fund and Clean Energy Fund.

Interested parties have up to 11 June 2021 to submit an application. Visit the website for more.
